100KVA 380V to 220V Three Phase Dry Type Isolation Transformer for Industrial Equipment Voltage Adaptation
Industrial case study — 100KVA three phase dry type isolation transformer installed for semiconductor test equipment voltage adaptation.
Semiconductor testing equipment must operate under stable and correctly rated electrical conditions. Silexceed is a high-tech semiconductor testing service company that provides independent third-party integrated circuit testing services for international semiconductor manufacturers. The testing equipment it operates is prepared for overseas deployment, and must therefore be verified against the electrical standards of different countries, which vary in voltage levels, supply configurations and grid compatibility.
For this project, Winzele supplied a 100KVA three phase dry type isolation transformer that converts 380V input to 220V output. The transformer provides voltage conversion and electrical isolation for semiconductor test equipment configured to an international power supply standard, supporting equipment testing and preparation before export.
1. Project Overview
Semiconductor equipment intended for export is typically specified for the electrical standard of the destination market. Voltage levels and power supply configurations differ between regions, so a testing environment that prepares equipment for international deployment must accommodate more than one electrical interface. The 380V to 220V transformer installed in this project allows 220V-rated test equipment to be operated and validated on the existing 380V site supply, a common arrangement in semiconductor testing facilities that support exported industrial equipment.

The scope of the project covered transformer supply, site installation, electrical connection and commissioning. The transformer was installed as a dedicated power interface between the facility supply and the semiconductor test equipment.
2. Customer Background
Silexceed is an independent third-party semiconductor testing service provider. The company specializes in integrated circuit testing for international semiconductor manufacturers, with services that include wafer level test (CP), final test (FT), system level test (SLT), burn-in testing and semiconductor mass production testing.
Because the company’s testing services support equipment prepared for international markets, the facility regularly handles machines specified for electrical standards other than the local 380V supply. For this project, the transformer was used for exported semiconductor equipment power compatibility testing, providing the 220V interface required to validate equipment before it was prepared for international deployment.
3. Power Challenge
Semiconductor testing equipment must be operated under the electrical standard of its destination market. When equipment is prepared for overseas deployment, it may encounter voltage systems that differ from the local supply. The core challenge in this project was voltage compatibility: the equipment had to be operated and tested against a 220V supply, while the available site power was 380V. Connecting 220V-rated equipment directly to a 380V supply is not possible without a conversion stage.
- Equipment designed for different voltage systems. Equipment intended for overseas markets is often specified for the electrical standard of the destination country, which may differ from the local supply.
- Safe voltage conversion. The difference between the site supply voltage and the equipment requirement had to be resolved with a properly rated transformer.
- Electrical isolation. Isolation between the input and output sides protects sensitive electronic equipment from common-mode disturbances and ground loop issues.
- Protection of sensitive electronic equipment. Semiconductor test equipment contains measurement and control circuits that benefit from a dedicated isolated power interface.
The solution had to be practical, correctly rated and installed within the existing facility without changing the incoming supply infrastructure.
4. Solution Provided
Winzele supplied a 100KVA three phase dry type isolation transformer for this application. The transformer converts 380V three phase input to 220V three phase output at 50Hz, providing the voltage level required by the test equipment.
The application value of the transformer lies in four areas:
- 380V to 220V voltage conversion. The transformer steps the site supply down to the voltage level specified for the equipment.
- Electrical isolation between input and output. The primary and secondary windings are electrically separated, providing galvanic isolation between the two systems.
- Dedicated power interface for semiconductor test equipment. The transformer creates a dedicated power point matched to the rated voltage of the connected equipment, configured for the testing environment.
- Suitable for indoor industrial installation. The dry type construction was suitable for indoor industrial installation and provided a reliable power interface for the equipment testing environment.
5. Installation and Commissioning
The transformer was delivered to the project site and installed in 2023. The installation followed a controlled sequence:
- Transformer delivery and positioning. The 100KVA three phase dry type isolation transformer was delivered and positioned at the prepared installation location.
- Electrical wiring and internal connection. The incoming 380V supply was connected to the primary side, and the 220V output was connected to the equipment-side distribution.
- On-site commissioning. The transformer was energized and the output voltage was verified against the 380V in / 220V out specification.
- Final acceptance. The installation was inspected and accepted after verification of the electrical connections and output conditions.

7. Why Isolation Transformer Was Selected
An isolation transformer was selected for this project for engineering reasons:
- Voltage conversion between different electrical standards. The transformer provides the required 380V to 220V conversion, so equipment specified for a 220V supply can be operated on the available 380V facility network.
- Galvanic isolation. The isolated windings separate the input and output circuits, preventing the propagation of neutral currents and common-mode disturbances between the supply and the equipment.
- Improved equipment power interface. The transformer creates a dedicated power point for the test equipment, with the output configured to the voltage requirement of the equipment.
- Suitable for sensitive industrial equipment applications. Semiconductor test equipment contains measurement and control electronics that operate from an isolated and correctly rated supply.
The dry type construction supports installation in an indoor industrial environment without the oil containment and fire protection measures required for liquid-filled transformers.
Compared with a non-isolated voltage conversion approach, the isolation transformer adds a defined separation point in the electrical system. This separation is useful in a testing environment where measurement equipment, control circuits and the equipment under test share the same facility network, because it limits the paths for circulating currents between the systems.
8. Application Value
This project demonstrates how isolation transformers support manufacturers who export industrial equipment to international markets. Semiconductor testing companies and equipment manufacturers routinely face the question of how to operate equipment designed for one electrical standard on a site that uses another. A three phase dry type isolation transformer provides a direct and reliable answer.
The same voltage conversion approach applies to:
- Semiconductor equipment
- Automated testing systems
- Industrial machinery
- Precision electronic equipment
The 100KVA transformer installed for Silexceed is an example of a focused industrial equipment voltage adaptation: it converts the available 380V supply to the 220V level required by the equipment, provides electrical isolation, and integrates into the facility without changes to the incoming supply. For semiconductor testing services that prepare equipment for international deployment, this type of voltage adaptation is a standard part of industrial electrical integration.
For equipment manufacturers and testing service providers preparing machines for international deployment, voltage adaptation is a routine but necessary step in industrial electrical integration. The 100KVA transformer at the Silexceed site demonstrates a compact and practical arrangement: one transformer, one enclosure and a defined 380V to 220V interface between the facility and the equipment.
Since installation in 2023, the transformer has provided the semiconductor equipment power supply interface for the testing environment, converting the 380V facility supply to the 220V level required by the connected equipment.
